Get to know Derrick Young Jr., MPH
Leadership.
Derrick is Co-founder and Executive Director of Leadership Brainery (LB). Leadership Brainery is a 501(c)(3) organization addressing inequitable access to master’s and doctoral degrees and workforce leadership opportunities for underrepresented talent. We work with prospective and current graduate students, academic institutions, employers, and committed community members to eliminate systemic barriers to education and create inclusive communities.
Strategy.
As Coronavirus spreads across the United States, Black Americans—who are not to blame—are hit the hardest. Black Americans continue to experience multigenerational systematic obstacles to access essential resources, quality health care, good jobs and safe living environments, which makes them much more vulnerable to COVID-19.
Creativity.
Art is a way to express thoughts, feelings, and hopes. Derrick has created numerous of pieces that all have an underlying focus on personal experiences, equity, and community.
Love.
Derrick and Jonathan Allen met in 2012 while both attending Grambling State University. Their story as passionate advocates, innovators and civic leaders has spread around the world. They hope to inspire and uplift everyone around them.
